Where To Find Good Parks In Chicago To Practice Sports

Chicago has 570 parks spread over 7,600 acres. Needless to say, this Illinois city has a lot of to offer in terms of sports and recreation. Most of the parks offered by Chicago have a lot of other facilities as well. The following are some top parks of Chicago to practice sports –

  • Lincoln Park – This used to be a little public cemetery but now, the North Side of Chicago’s front yard is defined by it. It begins from Lake Shore Drive and stretches till the North Avenue. In the summer, kite flying is the most popular activity in the park. In winter, however, Cricket Hill invites sledding. Also popular is golf on the “Sydney R. Morovitz Golf Course” Miniature golf can be played in Diversey Parkway where the course has 18 holes, complete with footbridges and waterfalls. There is also the History Museum and Zoo at the end.
  • Millennium Park – Apart from being a popular tourist attraction, this park becomes a great place for ice skating in winter. The “McCormick Tribute Ice Rink” is where this can be done. Millennium Park is also known for its concerts and music festivals all year round.
  • Grant Park – Downtown Chicago’s defining feature, Grant Park has the perfect scenery and backdrop to practice sports on a beautiful day. The “Daley Bicentennial Plaza” is a quiet place where you can practice 16” softball and yoga. In the winter, it provides an ice rink for ice skating. Various summer concerts are also held in this area. Apart from that, there is the amazing “Buckingham Fountain” to enjoy.
  • Washington Park – Found between Cottage Grove Avenue and King Drive, Washington Park is a mile long inland. The park has the best baseball fields of Chicago and is a popular spot for community leagues. Fishing is also a popular sport in the lagoon found in the park.
  • Garfield Park – Garfield Park is not close to other lakefront parks but it has its charm nonetheless. Apart from its famous conservatory, this park comes with a boxing ring. Lessons for the same are available in the park.
  • Humboldt Park – Apart from the various recreational features of this park, the fitness and sports classes are the most sought after. The “Little League” baseball stadium has 800 seats and is probably the biggest attraction.

The other parks where sports can be practices include Ping Tom Memorial Park, 23rd Street Grounds, Chicago Stadium, Dexter Park, Comiskey Park, Normal Park, Ogden Park, South Side Park, Washington Park Race Track and West Side Park. Team Snap can be used for finding even more venues.
